Apple Student Developer connection
So I here about this developer connection through apple where a student pays $99.99 and he/she gets a hardware discount. I was going to purchase this happy shit if it were worth it…Does anyone know what the cost of a MacBook Pro would be?!?
You get a $100 discount just for being a student, and also a free iPod. But I’ve never heard of this.

Looks like the discount is 20%. Not a bad idea for a MBP.
If only it were worth its sticker price, though.
I could buy a sick Lenovo for as much as a MBP costs, and I’d be able to run 95% of the software on the market.
But you suck, so you don’t need *nix. What computer you use doesn’t matter.
I can run *nix on the Lenovo, too. What I can’t run on the Lenovo is OSX, but then I’m not really missing much.
^^ to each his own. IMO my MBP has been the best and outright most stable developer machine i’ve owned.
To the thread starter: rumor has it that newer MBP models and being released later this year. Might want to hold out.
the student developer discount is a one time deal, so use it wisely.
50% of my time goes into developing win32 apps under vmware (it’s fast as shit) with sql server (various versions). Mostly .net. Not on the win32 side I do Cocoa apps, ruby, iphone, mysql, c/c++
So…you’re not really running OSX. It’s just the host machine for the VMs that you’re running Windows on, and doing most of your work in.
Not really running OS X? He’s using OS X to do all his desktop stuff, and windows when he has to develop on Windows, which is only half the time.
You know there is a MAC forum on this site… You might have some better luck over there…
