been having PC troubles lately
about a couple of months ago i noticed my computer has becoming more and more sluggish. my applications take longer to load, more ram to load and everythings becoming alot slower than usual. for example, when i try playing games like counter strik 1.6, i usually had my settings at 32 bit and 1024×768 resolution and i would get constantly get 60 fps and rarely slowdown. now whenever i play, i have all my settings at the lowest and im still getting alot of slowdown. i’ve reformatted my computer countless times, but it doesnt fix anything. and the biggest problem is, when i have alot of apps going my computer just kinda gives out and shuts off on its own..
so im assuming its hardware problems, i have only 1gb of ram and a 450 watt powersupply. is it time for me to upgrade 1 of these… or both?
i checked out my ram usage when im gaming, and im at around 50-60%… which isnt that bad. so im guessing ill have to go for a stronger power supply (though ill probably upgrade my ram as well)
thoughts?
I assume you are running XP. If so 1GB is what I consider the minimum for a power user, so 2GB would of course be better. What brand 450w PSU do you have?
Also, what are the rest of the specs of your machine?
windows xp pro
intel p4, 3 ghz
1gb ram
200gb hd
asus p5nd2-sli (integrated sound, video, lan) mobo
radeon 1300x-256mb video card
Optimax – 450W P4 ATX power supply
heres the exact power supply i have and where i bought it from
only $30 canadian now, i guess it is a piece of shit
what about my power supply though? i’ve been talking to alot of computer savvy ppl and they’re telling me that my computer is shutting off because the ps is usually the first to crap out. ill upgrade my ram, but what i want to know is if my power supply is the main problem?
