Dumb ass noob privacy question
I do not work in the computer field. I know, I suck at life.
I do happen to do some work from a small coffee shop with wi-fi. It would be nice to access my bank accounts, but I have been afraid to.
However, they have a computer room which I can see. If I can see with my own eyes that there is no human being in there, is it safe to go to my bank account, or is the risk that someone might intercept my login info too great?
Thanks.
Your bank uses an SSL connection, you’re fine. Having said that, a human being doesn’t need to be monitoring your connection in real time to extract the data…
i wouldnt do my banking on someone elses connection
let alone on their unsecured wifi
I wouldn’t… but it should be fine. People can pick up a lot of information from a wireless signal. If you do decide to do that make sure you log off and shutdown the browser.
Using an SSL connection does not mean that it is safe. Man in the middle attacks can still compromise your data.
