eee pc 900, boot from external hdd for xp install

I’ve been trying for a few hours now, does anyone know what I need to do to get going? I’ve copied over the entire windows cd to an external hdd, booted but all I get is the black screen with a blinking line. I’ve heard its possible to install windows from an external hdd, but how?
Anything Helps, Thanks
you can do it from a flash drive, hold on let me find the link
you need to make the external HD or usb drive bootable, you cant just copy the files over.

make an .iso image of your XP CD and then use this program to write the .iso onto the HD.

then you’ll be able to boot off that usb/HD.

edit: unetbootin only works for linux installs
here are step by step instructions for XP installs

on a side note

checkout my badass eeePC 900 with ubuntu installed via USB thumbdrive

No fair! Craptop is the name of my old laptop!

You need to change your computer name, like right now.

i’ve been naming my linux laptops "craptop" forever now

this is my 3rd craptop

xubuntu ibook, ubuntu vaio vgn-sz360p and this ubuntu eeePC have all been named that
i’m glad this noob came back to get the useful information that i posted
How are the drivers for ubuntu? I was thinking that might be a decent option.
and starcraft…. A big part of windows was starcraft

everything works great on the eeePC with ubuntu

you gotta remember the xandros versions are linux.

i used a custom eeePC mod program that you run right after your install and it gets the wireless working and tweaks ubuntu to run optimally on the eeePC as well as adjusts the screen resolution and makes all the function keys work.

ive never tried XP on mine, bought a 20gb xandros 1 and switched to ubuntu but so far everything works.
so let me get this straight, if you boot the eee with a flash drive connected, all you have to do is have an .iso on the drive to boot off of it
The way I understand it, you run the .sio of the distro through the first mentioned program, and then boot. At least that’s what I’m trying right now. I noticed that app for ubuntu as I was searching around, was unsure if it was just bloatware though. I’ll give it a shot.
