Reformatted using a newer xp disc and now my resolution sucks ass
my resolution before was 1680×1050 but now after using this newer version of xp I got from demonoid 1680×1050 isn’t even an option. when I select the highest (1280×1024) it says out of range
got the drivers loaded for your video card and monitor?
I’m really not sure guys. this computer is old and the version of xp I was runniong was the open license academic version. Now I’m running xp essentials sp3
I’ll try to find them and see if that helps

Since XP can find the device, perhaps third party drivers are your best bet. When compatible, NVIDIA is my choice.

Find out what kind of video card you have, go on the web and get the drivers… The same goes for all the other missing hardware drivers in there too.
There is no ‘newer’ version of XP out… XP is XP plus updates, unless it is a custom image.
And it may help to use a legit copy of Windows
If you go back to the old disk you’ll have the same problem. Don’t waste your time.
open up your case, figure out what card it is, go to the manufacturer’s website. get the drivers. install. and now you can set your resolution.
you will have the same problem if you go back and install from your ‘old disk’

The OP is not asking anything about "piracy, serials, copying of copyright material (movies, music, etc), hacking, cracking, phreaking, etc etc etc". Simiply that he doesn’t know what he is doing as far as drivers. I see no problem with this thread and think you are taking the piracy thing a little overboard. The fact that it is a pirated version of windows is irrelavent to the OP’s question, legit versions of windows don’t come with the drivers he needs help with.
