what if you have some files on your computer you don’t want your girlfriend to see. Besides hiding it in a deep dark secret folder, is there a way to make those certain files unsearchable?

I think my girlfriend did a search for ".avi" or ".mpg" and came across some naughty stuff

help a noob out!
do i just set the folder to "hidden" in the properties?

this only helps with "files containing" and speeds up general stuff. indexing doesn’t select whats searchable or not

Well, fuck

I thought if you made them hidden, windows search would only find them if you typed in the exact name of the file. Maybe make the directory hidden and only unhide them when you want to access them. Better yet, get your girl used to the fact that you look at porn. Maybe even get her into it with stuff she might like.

Delete all extensions. When you want to watch the video, just add the extension back on.
change the extension of all avi and mpg files to .newb. then, configure .newb files to open with your media player.

open an explorer window, click tools -> folder options, go to file types, click new, blah blah not gonna bother with the rest.

That’s the beauty of TrueCrypt, the program I suggested earlier. You can name the volume anything you want and stuff it in the Windows folder or something. When you need what ever is in it, you mount it as another hard drive then unmount it when you’re finished. Unless she starts checking file sizes randomly, she wouldn’t have a clue.

So, if she searched for *.mpg and found "tweenage lesbian anal orgy.mpg" and she couldn’t open it because it was encrypted, you bet your ass that would cause trouble.

Actually, no he wasn’t. Read the first post – he wants to hide his porn so that she can’t simply search by *.avi.

How it got this far is beyond me…
Nobody said anything about encrytion. They mentioned file security.. Which should work as well. If you set the permissions on a folder to your own login and deny to all others no one can search it but you. And trying to navigate to it will give an access denied error

unless you have a trusting relationship where she knows your p/w
all of this just to hide porn. wtf. why even keep it. there’s so much of that crap out there.

so much that you can even get it with one hand *tied behind your back*

*ahem* yeah tied.

what would be the best format to put a movie on a CD? it is unknown what the OS and software will be on the target computer, which will ultimately play the movie. it’s not a full-length movie, just a promotional video. not sure on the exact length

I’ve googled for it but there are many conflicting answers. I trust the OT folks…..mostly…..so can someone give me a quick run down on which formats would be best and why?
put multiple formatted versions of the video on the CD? i have no idea what would be "best" universally.

I’d think something like MPEG-2 would be the most universal format.

You said you didn’t know the length, but do you think it would possible to include multiple formats? Something like a combo of H.264 for Mac folks and WMV for Windows folks would be great.
WMV was already tried, and PC we used it on couldn’t play it for whatever reason. so we were hoping to find a more universal format.

I’ll bring up the multiple formats thing if it’s possible.

isn’t h264 universal?
For H.264 to play on a Windows PC, they need to have Quicktime (or another suitable codec like ffmpeg or coreavc) installed.
doesn’t everyone? lol

that’s why multiple formats would be best, you’re right. I just don’t know if that’ll be possible until tomorrow. what can play MPEG-2?
I know quite a few people who despise Quicktime. It really doesn’t run all that well on Windows.

What kind of people is the disc going to be given to? Are they fairly computer savvy, or are they more like the type that barely know how to check their email and browse the internet?

Not a bad option. Could also be done with XviD or DivX.

i figure if they don’t have the codecs already, might as well give ‘em most everything they’ll ever need.
CCCP? is it just a program with which to install the H.264 codec?

isn’t h264 universal?

wait… you couldn’t play a WMV file on a Windows PC? what version of Windows was it? how did you save the file? i can’t imagine not being able to play WMV on windows.
neither can I, but that’s what happened.

I think we’re going to try and put 3 different formats on the disc if it will fit:

1) H.264
2) MPEG-4 Xvid
3) MPEG-1
dv-avi? 100% uncompressed
if its < 3-4 minutes it should be fine, might have to be transferred to the computer to play wihtout hiccups though
its about 5 min to a gigabyte for dv footage

combined community codec pack. it’s basically most every codec you will need.
I don’t agree with including codecs. Since this is a promo video I doubt people want to be installing shit to their computers to watch it.

I would try MPEG-2 or leave the video as uncompressed avi

Do any of you know if it is possible to make it so if any .wmv / .avi file is clicked on my website, it is automatically loaded either in that window, or in a popup.. instead of prompting user to download?

People upload files to my website, and want to be able to play the videos right on the site.. instead of having to download.

how the browser deals with .wmv/.avi files is up to the browser and the operating systems default file types. instead of linking directly to the file you can either embed it in the current page or you can have a javascript link that opens a new window with the file embedded in the popup.

i was hoping there may be a chance i could manipulate the way my website handles any url with *.wmv* in it.. maybe using the .htaccess… heh… guess i’ll have to do things the hard (right) way…

thanks
well you can link to a script that will output different headers and change the content-type while keeping the file as a wmv but that just helps the browser and OS know what to do with it. examples with php here:

ya but if you actually want it to play inside the browser you’ll have to embed it.
short of using a windows media player plugin, java applet, or flash you can’t guarantee that function. In the end, the browser decides how to handle it.
Use .htaccess to pass it through a PHP file that will properly embed it.

That’s what I am going to try do do..

[edit] i sucks, read next post [/edit]
Okie Dokie… I’m a little stuck (and off to bed so I have given up until tomorrow night after work)

Dumpy: (or anybody) … embedding into a php file is easy.. manually… how can I make it so clicking on ‘mysite.com/uploaded/ai2a/funnylol.avi’ will be rewritten to say… ‘mysite.com/streaming/video.php’ with the ‘funnylol.avi’ video embedded into it…

Or is that too dificult / too much work / not possible?
You want flash video, man. Its REALLY easy to create a playable .swf (flash) video if you have .flv video, or any kind of video for that matter. Get Flash (the program) and create videos to embed. It will even output the HTML to embed them for you, and you can easily set options for the player like audio controls, FF/rewind, etc.

Converting to flv/swf is easy… my problem is I have people uploading .wmv, .avi, .mpg files, and I am trying to see if there is a way to redirect a direct URL if to something like > video.php having code in it to grab that video and play it…

I think I am complicating things too much.

Then I suggest you read my post again, because I included instructions for embedding any kind of video using HTML.

I can embed… my issue was the video is being uploaded, and the url to the file will cause the browser (most likely) to download it…

I sort of figured this out… but I am having a problem…

I wanted when a user clicked , it to load in an embedded html/php file…

The easiest way to do this I figured was using .htaccess…

I have a php file that when combined with … it plays it in the embedded page.

I then used a rewrite rule in .htaccess to rewrite the url to …

Anyway… the video isn’t loading when it is redirected using the .htaccess!!

RewriteRule (.+).avi http://www.mysite.com/video.php?vid=$1.avi [QSA,L]

*edited out website name because until i’m finished i dont want it published.
CLIFFS:

Embedded video = easy and works
Rewriting link to video to the embedded link = easy? and no works… WtF
I posted this on another forum a while back (so I may not stand by the exact wording, but overall, it’s still accurate)…

Could you please explain how this code works?? Im clueless.

RewriteRule

Okay, this is put into your .htaccess file, but CD forgot to mention that you need to turn on the rewrite engine.

Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteEngine on

Although, putting those in your .htaccess file may wind up being redundant if you’re on a shared server (since most shared hosts have already done it for you), it’s always good practice to do it since both commands MUST be passed in order for rewrite rules work.

Moving on…

RewriteRule

= Begining of regex phrase (verbatim)
= variable content
= End of regex phrase.
To break it down even more, what that phrase is saying is "Everything after will be made into a variable (how to call the variable will be discussed in just a second). Of course, this is assuming your URL contains .

= variable. You use this to call the variable created from .

= just an example PHP with various GET options in the URL. Simply put, this can be anything your little heart desires. Another example would be: (assuming you have a file named viewfile.php and it is set up to $_GET["file"]).

= No Case (case insensitive)
= Last (last flag)

So here’s another example:

Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteEngine on

RewriteRule ^files/(.+)$ view.php?file=$1 [NC,L]

Everything that is in the directory "files" will be passed through view.php for processing. Obviously in here, I can put a border, create a HTML page, throw in some ads, etc.

Love Always,
Dumpy Dooby

So in your case, you’re going to want to go with:

Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteEngine on

RewriteRule ^videos/(.+)$ videos.php?view=$1 [R,L]

That’s assuming your videos are contained in the videos subdirectory.

I noticed one funny thing about my post: I used [NC,L], which is contradictory. Like I put above, you’ll want to go with [Redirect,Last rule].

Here is the information on flags from Apache []:

Additionally you can set special flags for Substitution by appending

         [flags]

as the third argument to the RewriteRule directive. Flags is a comma-separated list of the following flags:

           ‘redirect|R [=code]‘ (force redirect)
Prefix Substitution with [:thisport]/ (which makes the new URL a URI) to force a external redirection. If no code is given a HTTP response of 302 (MOVED TEMPORARILY) is used. If you want to use other response codes in the range 300-400 just specify them as a number or use one of the following symbolic names: temp (default), permanent, seeother. Use it for rules which should canonicalize the URL and give it back to the client, e.g., translate “/~” into “/u/” or always append a slash to /u/user, etc.
Note: When you use this flag, make sure that the substitution field is a valid URL! If not, you are redirecting to an invalid location! And remember that this flag itself only prefixes the URL with [:thisport]/, rewriting continues. Usually you also want to stop and do the redirection immediately. To stop the rewriting you also have to provide the ‘L’ flag.

‘forbidden|F‘ (force URL to be forbidden)
This forces the current URL to be forbidden, i.e., it immediately sends back a HTTP response of 403 (FORBIDDEN). Use this flag in conjunction with appropriate RewriteConds to conditionally block some URLs.

‘gone|G‘ (force URL to be gone)
This forces the current URL to be gone, i.e., it immediately sends back a HTTP response of 410 (GONE). Use this flag to mark pages which no longer exist as gone.

           ‘proxy|P‘ (force proxy)
This flag forces the substitution part to be internally forced as a proxy request and immediately (i.e., rewriting rule processing stops here) put through the . You have to make sure that the substitution string is a valid URI (e.g., typically starting with ) which can be handled by the Apache proxy module. If not you get an error from the proxy module. Use this flag to achieve a more powerful implementation of the directive, to map some remote stuff into the namespace of the local server. Notice: To use this functionality make sure you have the proxy module compiled into your Apache server program. If you don’t know please check whether mod_proxy.c is part of the “httpd -l” output. If yes, this functionality is available to mod_rewrite. If not, then you first have to rebuild the “httpd” program with mod_proxy enabled.

‘last|L‘ (last rule)
Stop the rewriting process here and don’t apply any more rewriting rules. This corresponds to the Perl last command or the break command from the C language. Use this flag to prevent the currently rewritten URL from being rewritten further by following rules. For example, use it to rewrite the root-path URL (‘/’) to a real one, e.g., ‘/e/www/’.

‘next|N‘ (next round)
Re-run the rewriting process (starting again with the first rewriting rule). Here the URL to match is again not the original URL but the URL from the last rewriting rule. This corresponds to the Perl next command or the continue command from the C language. Use this flag to restart the rewriting process, i.e., to immediately go to the top of the loop.
But be careful not to create an infinite loop!

‘chain|C‘ (chained with next rule)
This flag chains the current rule with the next rule (which itself can be chained with the following rule, etc.). This has the following effect: if a rule matches, then processing continues as usual, i.e., the flag has no effect. If the rule does not match, then all following chained rules are skipped. For instance, use it to remove the “.www” part inside a per-directory rule set when you let an external redirect happen (where the “.www” part should not to occur!).

         ‘type|T=MIME-type‘ (force MIME type)
Force the MIME-type of the target file to be MIME-type. For instance, this can be used to simulate the mod_alias directive ScriptAlias which internally forces all files inside the mapped directory to have a MIME type of “application/x-httpd-cgi”.

‘nosubreq|NS‘ (used only if no internal sub-request)
This flag forces the rewriting engine to skip a rewriting rule if the current request is an internal sub-request. For instance, sub-requests occur internally in Apache when mod_include tries to find out information about possible directory default files (index.xxx). On sub-requests it is not always useful and even sometimes causes a failure to if the complete set of rules are applied. Use this flag to exclude some rules.
Use the following rule for your decision: whenever you prefix some URLs with CGI-scripts to force them to be processed by the CGI-script, the chance is high that you will run into problems (or even overhead) on sub-requests. In these cases, use this flag.

‘nocase|NC‘ (no case)
This makes the Pattern case-insensitive, i.e., there is no difference between ‘A-Z’ and ‘a-z’ when Pattern is matched against the current URL.

‘qsappend|QSA‘ (query string append)
This flag forces the rewriting engine to append a query string part in the substitution string to the existing one instead of replacing it. Use this when you want to add more data to the query string via a rewrite rule.

‘noescape|NE‘ (no URI escaping of output)
This flag keeps mod_rewrite from applying the usual URI escaping rules to the result of a rewrite. Ordinarily, special characters (such as ‘%’, ‘$’, ‘;’, and so on) will be escaped into their hexcode equivalents (‘%25′, ‘%24′, and ‘%3B’, respectively); this flag prevents this from being done. This allows percent symbols to appear in the output, as in RewriteRule /foo/(.*) /bar?arg=P1%3d$1 [R,NE]

which would turn ‘/foo/zed’ into a safe request for ‘/bar?arg=P1=zed’. Notice: The noescape flag is only available with Apache 1.3.20 and later versions.

‘passthrough|PT‘ (pass through to next handler)
This flag forces the rewriting engine to set the uri field of the internal request_rec structure to the value of the filename field. This flag is just a hack to be able to post-process the output of RewriteRule directives by Alias, ScriptAlias, Redirect, etc. directives from other URI-to-filename translators. A trivial example to show the semantics: If you want to rewrite /abc to /def via the rewriting engine of mod_rewrite and then /def to /ghi with mod_alias: RewriteRule ^/abc(.*) /def$1 [PT]
Alias /def /ghi

If you omit the PT flag then mod_rewrite will do its job fine, i.e., it rewrites uri=/abc/… to filename=/def/… as a full API-compliant URI-to-filename translator should do. Then mod_alias comes and tries to do a URI-to-filename transition which will not work. Note: You have to use this flag if you want to intermix directives of different modules which contain URL-to-filename translators. The typical example is the use of mod_alias and mod_rewrite..

‘skip|S=num‘ (skip next rule(s))
This flag forces the rewriting engine to skip the next num rules in sequence when the current rule matches. Use this to make pseudo if-then-else constructs: The last rule of the then-clause becomes skip=N where N is the number of rules in the else-clause. (This is not the same as the ‘chain|C’ flag!)

         ‘env|E=VAR:VAL‘ (set environment variable)
This forces an environment variable named VAR to be set to the value VAL, where VAL can contain regexp backreferences $N and %N which will be expanded. You can use this flag more than once to set more than one variable. The variables can be later dereferenced in many situations, but usually from within XSSI (via <!–#echo var="VAR"–>) or CGI (e.g. $ENV{‘VAR’}). Additionally you can dereference it in a following RewriteCond pattern via %{ENV:VAR}. Use this to strip but remember information from URLs.

Okay everyone,

Here is my problem:

I have a Cadillac that has a 6-disc CD changer that will not play mp3’s (only burned audio CD’s…so like 15-20 songs at max). It also has a functional DVD player that will play burned DVD’s but not burned DVD’s with MP3’s on it.

I was hoping that somebody might have a solution for me that will allow my mp3’s to be played on the DVD player.

My thought process was this:

I know that the Caddy DVD player will play burned video discs (full of music videos). So I know that you can create .avi’s into a playable DVD disc. My thought was that I could somehow convert my .mp3’s into .avi’s, and then from there burn them to a playable DVD.

Any thoughts on this? I can’t seem to find much information on converting .mp3’s into a playable .avi format.
why not just convert them to wav, make an audio cd/dvd from the mp3’s…
there are only two decent Ipod adapter kits, both are $200

plus the price of an IPOD

that still doesn’t solve my problem. I’d rather solve the burned DVD issue….
$150 for an ipod nano 4g.

I got an adapter for my chevy for $20 (kenwood hu), and $60 for my toyota (stock 6disc changer headunit).

Your dvd issue is solved by my suggestion. You’ve already said you can’t do exactly what you want to do. Therefore you’re either here to be a whinny bitch, or you’re stupid. Of course this can be remedied by coming back to reality.

There has to be some compromise otherwise you’ll never get that functionality.
If you have auxillary inputs on the back of the deck you can put a headphone to rca cable from the ipod to the deck. This is what I did in my eclipse and it worked great. It was about 10 bucks for the CD changer to RCA adapter piece and then 3 dollars for the headphone to rca cable. Cheapest fix if you have a deck that allows for cd changer controlling.
no aux inputs available

How does this suggestion at all help answer my question of adding mp3’s onto a burned DVD?

I don’t have any desire to spend $350 to fix this problem. The only way your suggestion could be any worse is if you say that I should purchase a $1k navigation head unit. Hell, maybe I should just sell my car and buy a different one that plays mp3’s.

god damn. you were doing pretty well for a while, but still your true asshole nature resurfaces.
If you aren’t diehard about audio quality you could always go with an FM transmitter. Otherwise, you’ll probably have to convert them to something that the dvd player will recognize. Is there a way to burn a black screen with music as chapters on a dvd? Surely the toyota cannot be the best answer.
it has a dvd player… do you have dvd authoring software? You could easily setup a dvd with songs as chapters… then use the next/previous chapter to go forward and backward… hell you could even setup whole albums as chapters, create your own title screen to access the chapters that would be depicted with the album covers. If you wanted to get REALLY fancy you could even record winamp visualizations of each song as it plays and use that as the video… that would be pretty bitching actually, but greatly reduce the number of songs you would get on each dvd

I’ve been looking at doing something in this area. If you really only want to spend 250$ you can do it. I don’t know if you have a double-din headunit or not but depending on that you can get a new HU that reads mp3’s easily. Installment cost around 50$. HU cost around 100$ (the really cheap ones)

Problem is with a bit more money you can get bluetooth and all kinds of shit. Double-din head units cost more so look to spend upwards of 200$ if you go that way. You can get single deck HU with double din adapters but they look like shit.
You can do this without spending any money… read what I already wrote…

then burn to DVD using convertXtoDVD
Yeah, I would google a program that can convet mp3 to avi as some people have mentioned. Then just burn them to DVD with Nero or a similar program. Worth a shot, but…

To be honest, it sounds like a lot of effort for something that may be worth spending some money to fix. Perhaps with a cheaper mp3 player/car connector or something. Or if you’re a DIY person: google for info like that. If you can somehow hardwire an aux input cable to your headunit on your own (I know nothing about this, you’d have to look into it) then you can hook up any cheap mp3 player (or even your laptop if you wanted) to it and play the music like that. You might want to go to craigslist and see if anyone has some cheap solutions to your problem or something if you don’t want to do it yourself. I’m not sure how easy this would be either, but if it is possible, it may be a better longrun solution cuz it might be a pain to convert and burn all those songs. Depends on how you feel about that and whether there are any other solutions without just buying the iPod + accessories. Good luck

did you happen to try the software that i linked earlier? i didn’t test it, but it claim it could do what you are asking.

one thing to keep in mind with AVI files also is that not all AVIs are created equal. AVI is a container that could contain videos encoded with a number of codecs including Divx and XVid as well as MJPEG and others i’m sure. then, i think XVid at least uses MP3s for the audio stream (or at least can use MP3 encoding for the audio stream). so, if your player can’t decode MP3s, you probably can’t play certain AVI formats that depend on MP3 encoding for the audio.

if you really want to go with this, i think what some have said with DVD chapters and just putting the MP3 music as the audio over some static pictures would work.

to more off’s point about people suggesting iPods, just know that the iPod is the most popular PMP right now. so, like Bandaids and Kleenex, when people are saying "get an iPod" they aren’t necessarily saying that the Apple iPod brand PMP is the only solution. quite often a person is meaning "buy an MP3 player."

it doesn’t matter what you think about iPods, it is pure fact that Apple cornered the market on portable media players. i’m seeing different numbers ranging from 70-90% (and possibly higher) of the PMP market is made up of iPods. they aren’t the best player, but they have a great interface and great 3rd party support (do you see any cars that come with Archos connectivity built in? no. it is either iPod or just a generic auxiliary jack). plus, are there any ways to buy songs that is better than iTunes? again, iTunes isn’t the best application and the Fair Play protected files kind of suck (and keep you locked into an iPod), but what other company has the success of Apple and thus the selection and pricing?

lol. truth.
I don’t think buying an IPOD is the correct way to go.

I struggled with a similar problem for years.
I spend 2 1/2 hours a day commuting. I wanted to listen to a radio show that clocks in at just over 3 hours during that commute.
The issue was that I had a paid subscription to the radio shows website (coast to coast am) and they distributed the .mp3 files as 4 45 minute files every day.

So the math is pretty simple to follow here.
A cd holds 72 minutes of music. 2 45 minute files = 90 minutes of music. Therefore without a bunch of trouble I am left with having to burn 4 CD’s when I only really needed to burn 2.

I struggled with it for a long time. Everything I tried to do was a huge pain in the ass.
Eventually I got a CD player for my car that played MP3’s.
That was the solution.
1 CD will carry more then 2 weeks worth of MP3 files of that radio program.

I know that replacing your CD player isn’t the answer you are looking for, but you should look into it. It really is a cheaper solution then I thought it would be.
I have looked into several solutions:

1) replacing the whole DVD/CD/Nav head unit in my Cadillac.
The problem with this is that:
A) it’s expensive, I wouldn’t want to downgrade and lose the NAV capability. So I’d end up spending $1.5-2K on an aftermarket HU
B) I would lose all of the sweet computer functions that GM so thoughtfully tied into the stock HU. The CTS-V has all of it’s performance monitors and car enhancements set up through the computer that is integrated into the stock HU. No solution exists yet to replace this entirely

2) An Ipod with applicable Ipod interface.
As I’ve mentioned before I don’t own and Ipod so there would be the initial cost in purchasing that ($150) and even worse yet is that the only decent Ipod interface with my stock HU is $200 and doesn’t even allow you to scroll through artists. It will only play through playlists. What a pain.

3) Somehow use the stock DVD’s player ability to play burned VD’s by tricking the DVD player when it is full of mp3’s.

4) Burn all of my albums to regular old CD-r’s as audio disks. Effectivelly one disk per album. This is the only option I will consider persuing if the burned DVD solution doesn’t work.

I haven’t tried Windows Movie Maker and my Nero must be crippled because I don’t see anyway to create a dvd with playable mp3’s as chapters (what version of nero do you have?)

Audio-DVD-Converter looks awesome and I will certainly give it a shot!!

Doomsday, appreciate your advice. Do you happen to know how to use Nero to do this?
And lets please give this Ipod argument a rest.

I don’t care which PMP is better. I don’t plan on using one for my solution either way. I do have a 512mB Sansa that I use when I go running. Otherwise I’m either in my car for less than 5 minutes (short commute), at my house (use my computer), or in my office (once again, use my computer).

what version of Nero do you have? I’m still using Nero 7 Ultra Edition but is still probably the same with Nero 8.

it’s easy.

in Nero StartSmart, go to Photo and Video > Make Your Own DVD-Video > Make Movie

add your Media files.
just drag the mp3s to Audio 1
drag the pic to video track
then extend the pic to sync with Audio 1’s timeline, or add more pics, or whatever you want to do. you can put song titles and shit.

Here,.. the mp3 is already a movie/vid.
Divide the mp3s as chapters
burn the dvd

and you’re done.

Ah, ok. Cool
I know I used some program to do the exact same thing but can’t remember what it was. I want to say VirtualDubMod but don’t think it was that. I know I tried Windows Movie Maker but that damn program always crashs or enters error-hell before I ever finish anything. I’ve never completed anything with WMM and have used it on multiple computers including fresh OS installs as well as fresh WMM installs….. I know others who’ve used it with no issues so I don’t know.

Assuming doom is right and just burning a data disk with wav’s won’t work (which I see no reason why it wouldn’t but I’ve never tried), try Windows Movie Maker or Nero (if you have it) since there are instructions here.
so good news and bad news

I finally was able to use nero vision to create a playable DVD with mp3 tracks

I was able to put it in my car and the DVD player recognized the disk and would play the music

the bad news is that fucking GM crippled the dvd player in this car so that you can’t use any functions while in motion. Most importantly, you can’t switch tracks, not even forward or backward without stopping the vehicle.

FUCK!!!!

My roadtrip is coming up in a week and I think I’m going to have no choice but to burn all of my albums to CD-R’s….what a waste!!

At least it has a 6-disk changer so the process won’t be totally unbareable.

Also considering enabling the already on-board XM
Here are the steps to be driving, riding, and watching (Be safe, if you are diving, do not watch screen!!)
Step 1 Put in DVD.
Step 2 Play DVD (Do not leave it at the front menu, if you do not start the DVD you will not be able to start it after you begin to drive.)
Step 3While playing – Hit the second from the bottom buttons on the right hand side of the DVD screen and then press the forward Seek Button. (You will see a little flicker)
NOTE: If you see a differnt screen with the words "cold reboot" on it, press the same button combination AGAIN and it should go back to the DVD…

Step 4 Now disable the parking break and make sure that the DVD stays on.
Step 5 Enjoy

If you did everything correct you will notice that all the features are disabled. If you are at the main menu of the dvd you will not be able to select play movie or any features.

If you would like to stop the dvd, you must hit the top right button first. Then it will bring up the safety lock if you are in motion or parking break off.

  Other notes:
I got DVD-R to play fine in mine, but the +R are having some problems.
thanks, yes, i followed that guide but what it neglects to mention is that you can’t skip tracks

so, i can get it to play but I can’t go to the next track, which means i’m pretty much locked into whatever shitty song i may have running…

Yes, and the solution: Don’t put shitty songs on your play list
yeah but a lot of them are albums I have yet to listen to

this road trip was going to be the time I get to first listen

All I need to make is a simple menu and then start the video.
convertXtodvd is fantastic imo.
great menu customization and alot of presetup templates
where all u do is drag-drop type in the title and hit convert/burn whichs does it all.
I’d probably say nero. It’s easy e-nuff to use, and has a fair few options.

Good program. A few clicks and you’re done.

But, any DVD maker program will do what you need.

.
Which Nero is it. I tried using Nero lastnight, seemed to work. Got the DVD done, put it in the DVD player.. and couldn’t read it.

Can someone maybe give some steps on nero or screen shots?

Tahnks
Did you use Vision or did you just throw the AVI’s on a data DVD and call it a day?

I was going to mess with it somemore but would like to get it figured out before i use up somemore DVD’s on trail and error
Download DVD Flick. Its simple. Its opensource.

That is awsome!! Looks like a lot of help. I will try when i get home.

I used DVDFlick once.. and i have like 6gig free on hard drive.. then as DVDFlick got towards the end.. There was an error.. I bet it ran out of room.. No i cleaned it up and got 15gig back..

Thanks!

I’d check it on your own computer DVD player first. Some consumer DVD players don’t play burnt DVD’s.

I dont think that is the case.. I was watching burned DVD of Family Guy all weekend
how old is the player then? These days most players will play all the formats, but I know the older players did not.
look the dvd player up on videohelp.com and see what formats it plays
Great news…! It WORKED! DVDFlick is awsome. I started right before i went to bed.. woke up this morning with a new DVD.

It didnt work the first time because my hard drive did not have enough space on it.

I recommend DVDFlick to everyone. So simple
