I have a weird problem with a couple of the servers in my office. Every few days, they will become completely unresponsive for about an hour, and the HDD lights will blink away like crazy the entire time. However, they will still respond to pings — they just won’t provide any other services that they’re supposed to.

I need a way to automatically check to see if something other than pings are getting answered, such as maybe Terminal Services connection requests, maybe once a minute or so, and then have the success/failure data shown to me on a timeline.

Anyone know of a product, or maybe a built-in Windows service, that I can use for this purpose?
The Cricket FAQ suggests that it doesn’t work on Windows. I really need something that runs on Windows Server 2003.
VMWare virtual machine, nigga. Throw linux up on ‘dat bitch. VMWare Server be free honkie.
I know, I’m using VMware Server. I didn’t realize Cricket didn’t need a receiving program running on the target server.

it polls via ICMP and SNMP. It can poll windows boxes just fine (and a slew of other 3rd party products that can’t run the actual cacti/cricket server).

only the server itself must run on a linux "box".

Gotcha.
