more on that here, if your the type that needs a back story

i tried putting my hard drive into my buddys PS3 to back up my data but sony was smarter then that…

so i bought this

and now im trying access my hard drive via usb on my PC in hopes of recovering my save files, it doesnt sound like that big of a deal untill understand that (like an idoit) i uploaded all my PS1 and PS2 save files onto my ps3s hard drive and sold my PS2 to a friend that couldnt afford one (thats what i get for being mr. charity ) so im gonna lose about 15 years worth of save files including my orginal Final Fantasy 7 saves with the clock maxed out …

so my pc wont reconize the drive, i can find it with the program that came with the unit but it wants me to partition it which would wipe it .. so is there a way to get my pc to see it as just a mass storage device so i can copy the nessisary files off of it?

im really kinda freaking out about losing all that info any help at all would be much appreciated, thanks in advance
the file system on that ps3 is most likely NOT fat or ntfs so windows won’t be able to see it.

from reading quickly online it looks to be a proprietary linux/bsd based file system.

boot from a knoppix live cd to see if it can see it. not sure what else to try.

can you hook up two external drives to the ps3? one is your ps3 disk, the other is a blank fat32 disk. can copy from one external to the other?

some partially related info here
Will the PS3 boot up at all, you could always stick the PS3 in the freezer and transfer the data to a USB HDD that is formatted to FAT32

Try Netgear or SMC.

CSIRO owns the patent for 802.11 wireless products
they sued Buffalo Technology
CSIRO won, and Buffalo was ordered to stop selling them (Buffalo appeal pending)
CSIRO would take on the others next (Netgear, Belkin, 3Com, Linksys, etc)

is there a way i can just throw the files from the .iso’s onto a 4GB flash drive, boot from it in linux, and then upgrade from there?
yup

use a program called "netbootin"

then rename some folders and you’re good to go

i have a Motorola Surfboard Modem and need to activate the keep alive feature on the modem. The problem is my PS3 is not connecting to the network because it keeps timing out. The web browser works fine, its just the playstation network it wont connect to. The Sony helpdesk told me to call my cable company and ask them about the following ports

TCP80 443 5223 10070-10080
UDP 3478 3479 3658 10070keepalive

The cable guy was nothing short of worthless. He said the TCP ports were not blocked, and that he did not know what the UDP one was and didnt know what keep alive was…

any help?

The 2Wire I got when I upgraded to DSL is about to die and the Netgear WGR614 doesn’t get a good signal whenever I’m in the backyard. The house is on the end of a cul-de-sac and from my room to our backyard is anywhere from 50 to 120 feet.

Soon enough, I’ll have my PC, 2 labtops with my parents constantly streaming video and a PS3 along with the Elite service from SBCYahoo (5MB DL) so I most definitely need a new router.

Fortunately for me the local Fry’s I work at has a lot of wireless routers on sell and I’m having a tough time picking one. Co-workers recommended the D-Link series specifically the DIR-615 and DIR-655 — the former was recommended more often but NewEgg reviews say otherwise. Is the DIR-655 overkill or will it fit the bill?
