My computer keeps getting a BSOD after its on for about 10 minutes. It BSODs, i turn it off, and it doesnt turn back on for about 10 minutes. Any idea what the problem is? i recently had a new hdd and mobo put in.
It would help if you’re tell us what the BSOD said.
Also try starting up in SafeMode
Hit F8 on startup and disable automatic reboot on system failure. Post up the error codes and text next time it happens.
i remember one time it something like ntfs.sys. but ill write down the codes next time it happens

alright i finally wrote down the codes on the BSOD:
*** Stop: 0×0000008E (0×0000005, 0×804f3897, 0XF7DA808, 0X00000000)
Can you boot into safe mode? Could be a rootkit(spyware) or a bad hard drive…

yeah. the computer doesnt boot for about 10 minutes after it BSODs. ill dl adaware and check for the root kit.

Do hard drive tests.. you wont find software that will just remove the rootkit.. or find it for that matter.

how do i get rid of it
i did chkdsk and it said my drive was fine. should i just reformat?
Sounds like a PSU issue to me.

EDIT: Not necessarily the BSOD issue but the inability to reboot for 10min
First hit on google…

Worth a read…

First hit on google…

so i need an xp cd to do this?

last time it did it i unplugged the power cord from the psu for 30 seconds and it turned on fine
I misread the whole damn topic. Sounds like your motherboard is holding power.. could be a psu or mobo?

how do i test which it is?

try a different power supply
start at the power supply? how much can i get a decent psu for? the comp has an AMD athlon cpu, 512mb ram, 60gb hdd, so im guessing nothing that powerful, right?

You can always rent one from Best Buy or some place. Just buy a cheap one, test to see if thats the issue, then return it and tell them you have an old Dell and the PSU didn’t work (your motherboard power connection is different and you need to get it from Dell themselves). If it was the PSU then order one from newegg or some place, I highly recommend Corsair, especially the -HX models.

And don’t feel bad about the BSOD, it happened during the opening ceremony at the Olympics:

assuming this isn’t fake….

i appreciate your help. will bb give me cash, or store credit?

sounds like heat to me, if it wont turn back on right away
It just gave me this code too on the BSOD.
NDIS.sys – address f8388733 base at f839c000
ive been meaning to get a new PSU. idk if this code changes anything

PSU can definitely cause a BSOD. Sounds like the Power supply is failing and dropping current to the drive. try a new power supply if possible.

This bsod reminds me a lot of the rustock rootkit.
BB should return your money in whatever form you payed them in, I’m pretty sure. Just go there and double check before you buy, but shouldn’t be store credit.
Microsoft has had a BSOD for every one of their operating systems since 98 while at the revealing conference.

Whenever you get a blue screen write down the stop code and google it. Every one has been documented and most have a fix pre-documented.
0×0000008E is usually a memory problem
ndis.sys stop errors is usually a driver or hardware problem.

test your ram, run memtest86+ overnight
also try different sticks of ram
uninstall/reinstall drivers

it’s china, probably used pirated windows

Have you seen their linux knockoff of XP?
